pancake. what a comforting word & image.

a delicious combination of sweetness and nutrition.

but it also just lies there. it's flat. it can't move on its own. it requires a spatula, at the end of a human arm, to even get flipped or lifted up.

my sister and i have had a saying for a very long time now. when we're exhausted and can't get up or can't get moving, we say "i'm a pancake".

this inspired me to write the following jingle one morning while i was lying in bed and text messaging with JPL:

oh yes i am a pancake
waiting on the short stack of life
oh yes i am a pancake
waiting to be eaten with delight

oh yes i am a pancake
bubbling on the griddle
oh yes i am a pancake
if you don't exercise i'll wind up on your middle

oh yes i am a pancake
warm with syrup and butter
oh yes i am a pancake
yummy like no other

oh yes i am a pancake
can't you see it's true
oh yes i am a pancake
hoping to be eaten by you
